July 12, 2011:
I've been doing a lot of painting lately, but my printer/scanner hasn't been working. I think it just needs a good cleaning but then again, I might need a new machine. I've been focusing on abstract art lately. I bought three books on how to create abstract art and all three have exercises and projects. I'll have to photograph my work and upload images that way. A bit inconvenient but it will have to do until I get a new scanner.

May 23, 2011:
The Current Feature on the Starbringer Art Gallery Home page entitled "Through the Rose Arch" was inspired by an early 20th century image. I did my own version of it in DAZ. I just wanted to see how it would turn out. I'm not sure who did the original image, but I think it was by Pamela Coleman Smith, the woman who designed and illustrated the Rider-Waite Tarot deck.

I uploaded a photo of a painting of King Tutankhamen that I did a long time ago. I did most of this in chalk on canvas with some areas in acrylic paint.

I also just uploaded an illustration of a wedjet or Eye of Horus. I created this image in Illustrator and was inspired by a picture of the Eye of Horus (wedjet) that had been made thousands of years ago using semi-precious stones.

April 27, 2011:
I'm working on a painting right now. I have the basics of it. The subject is an abstract featuring ribbons. Also I uploaded another image to Art Wanted:

This one is in ink and took me a long time to do. I made this back in the early '90s.

March 31, 2011:
I did this abstract watercolor on vellum. It got wrinkly, of course, so I'll have to iron it, but I like the translucent look it has on the vellum. I've noticed that I tend to work darker in watercolors, but us light glazes with acrylics, which is rather opposite of how people usually do things. It was interesting working on vellum.

The inspiration for this was an idea I had about nature reclaiming man-made things. My husband said the metallic-looking object reminded him of a gate, so I decided to incorporate "gate" in the name. It isn't very big, only about 6"x6". The most challenging part of the design was trying to decide what color to make the circles in the background! The rest of the picture just fell into place as I drew it. I used a 9B pencil because I wanted it soft and smudgy. I like how the grainyness of the graphite blends with the watercolors.

Every wonder where the socks go when you do laundry? You put two socks in the washer or dryer and then when you are folding, you can only find one sock out of a pair.
Now you know: it's the  Sock Faery .

March 28, 2011:
I uploaded a new image to my ArtWanted page:
Swan Close-up
I like the way this photo turned out, but I took it before I got my new camera so it is a lower res image.

March 23, 2011:
I've uploaded a photo to ArtWanted:
This is one of the images that I plan to use in an abstract painting. Haven't started those projects yet, but I'll get it done eventually!

March 18, 2011:
This won't be a fancy blog. It won't be technically impressive, or clever, or quirky. It won't inspire movies or get me on TV. What it will do is let people know what I'm up to with my art, and that's good enough for me.

I'm planning to do a series of abstract paintings inspired by nature. Walking in the woods a few days ago, I saw some partially melted snow with leaves peeking through and though that would be a good subject for a painting. Right now, I'm struggling to get my iPhone to upload the pictures I took yesterday. We went to the marsh and I found more inspiration there and I took a few photos. I'll post more once I get some projects under way.
